AVS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Short Course Program

The AVS Mid-Atlantic Chapter (MAAVS) is hosting a one day virtual AVS Short Course that will be held in conjunction with the Carolina Science Symposium Virtual Meeting (CSS 2021) taking place November 11-12, 2021 via the Zoom platform. See course details below.

Semiconductor Device Manufacturing Overview

Date: Thursday, November 11, 2021
Time: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. EST
Platform: Zoom

Course Objectives

  • Gain a "big picture" understanding of the steps involved in making and packaging an integrated circuit.
  • Learn the jargon associated with the microelectronics manufacturing industry.
  • Learn the key concepts and process parameters of each process step.

Course Description

The intent of this course is to provide an integrated overview of the complete semiconductor manufacturing process, starting with how single-crystal substrates are made. The background science needed for the information presented will be provided.

The course begins with an overview of basic materials-related concepts used in microelectronics processing. This is followed by a description of process steps required to make an integrated circuit. Process steps such as photolithography, deposition (including chemical vapor deposition, sputtering, and atomic layer deposition), oxidation, ion implantation, and etching.

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for engineers, technicians, marketing and sales people, or anyone involved in the microelectronics industry who wants a greater understanding of the microelectronic manufacturing.

NOTE: Course topic and Virtual meeting topics will not overlap on the same day, so you can participate in both events if desired.
